Adelaide Suburbs See Surge in Decluttering, Skip Bin Data Shows
Adelaide residents are increasingly decluttering their homes, according to new data from Mobile Skips Australia. The data shows that soaring house prices and rising construction costs are factors as homeowners opt to improve their existing living spaces rather than move.
Mobile Skips Australia recorded 5,076 skip bin bookings between 2021 and 2025. According to Jacob Spencer, chief executive of Mobile Skips Australia, Adelaide customers are choosing decluttering over heavier renovation projects. Spencer suggests that households in Adelaide may be less inclined to take on larger renovation projects compared to customers in Sydney and Melbourne. The most skip bin bookings were in Adelaide CBD, Morphett Vale, Prospect, Seaford Meadows, and Mawson Lakes. Data indicates that 58% of bookings were for household waste removal, while 42% were for renovation waste. The popularity of skip bin hire suggests council hard rubbish collections are not meeting demand.
