Amazon Reportedly Developing AI-Focused Smartphone, Potentially Without App Store

Amazon is reportedly developing a new smartphone, codenamed Transformer, more than a decade after discontinuing its Fire Phone. The new device may emphasize AI integration and direct access to Amazon services, potentially foregoing a traditional app store.

According to Reuters, Amazon is working on a new smartphone, codenamed Transformer. The project follows Amazon's earlier smartphone, the Fire Phone, which was discontinued over ten years ago. Sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that the new phone will focus on AI integration and direct access to Amazon services. The team also wants the phone to facilitate shopping via Amazon and partners like Grubhub, as well as streaming from Prime Video and Prime Music. Alexa could potentially serve as the phone’s operating system, but Reuters’ sources said that’s not certain. An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment on the report.
