Jamie Blanks: Australian Director Noted for Horror Contributions

Jamie Blanks, an Australian director, gained recognition in horror circles with his 1993 short film, "Silent Number". Blanks subsequently directed two slasher films, solidifying his place in the horror genre.

Following the success of "Scream" in 1996, studios actively sought filmmakers with a clear understanding of the horror genre. Blanks emerged as one of those voices. His 1993 short film "Silent Number" served as a calling card. The 15-minute short film incorporated the urban legend of "the babysitter and the phone call", which had been used in films such as "Black Christmas" and "When a Stranger Calls." Blanks's inspirations are evident from the start, with the opening credits and score paying homage to John Carpenter. The short film put him on Hollywood's radar, paving the way for him to direct two slasher films.
