Syria Foils Suwayda Arms Smuggling Attempt, Armed Group Members Killed

Syrian authorities foiled a weapons smuggling operation in the southern province of Suwayda on Friday. The Interior Ministry reported that two members of an armed group were killed, and others injured or arrested, during clashes with security forces.

Syria's Interior Ministry reported that specialized units thwarted an arms smuggling attempt along the Bosra al-Sham-Baka road. According to the ministry, the operation began after detecting "outlaw groups" infiltrating areas near internal security positions, accompanied by suspicious vehicle movements. Authorities believed the groups intended to destabilize security and stability. Security units raised readiness levels and moved to surround the group, according to the ministry. Clashes broke out after members of the group opened fire. Authorities seized weapons and ammunition from the group.
