Taemong: Conception Dreams Foretell Fortunes in Korean Culture, Traditions

Taemong, or conception dreams, are common in Korea and thought to foretell a child's future. These dreams are typically dreamt by the mother or close relatives before the child's birth and feature symbolic imagery.

In Korean culture, taemong are conception dreams that are thought to foreshadow a child's destiny. These dreams are commonly dreamt by the mother, father, grandparents, or close friends before the child is born. These dreams often include symbolic imagery such as dragons, flowers, peaches, or tigers. Park Yeon-su, the mother of a two-year-old, recounted dreaming of eating fruit before she knew she was pregnant, and knowing immediately it was taemong when an apple burst into flames accompanied by birdsong. RM of BTS shared that before he was born, his grandmother dreamed of a snake biting her ankle in a field of red peppers, which was interpreted as a taemong foretelling his future success.
