Tanner Bibee Named Cleveland Guardians Opening Day Starter Against Seattle
Tanner Bibee has been named the Cleveland Guardians' Opening Day starting pitcher. The 27-year-old right-hander will start on Thursday night in Seattle against the Mariners.
The Cleveland Guardians have announced that Tanner Bibee will be their Opening Day starting pitcher for the 2026 season. Bibee was slated to start on Opening Day last year, but acute gastroenteritis forced him to be scratched. He would make his debut three days later. Bibee told reporters that receiving the nod was "definitely really cool", and that he appreciated the "vote of confidence". Since joining the major leagues in 2023, Bibee has recorded 34 wins with a 3.61 ERA, making 31 starts in each of the past two seasons. Bibee pitched 11.1 innings with 16 strikeouts this spring, and is coming off a strong end to his 2025 campaign, where he took a win in three of his four final starts in the regular season.
