Thompson-Nicola Regional District Board Approves Solid Waste Disposal Fee Increases
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) board has approved increased fees at solid waste disposal sites. Effective April 1, garbage fees will increase from $1 to $2 per bag, concrete disposal fees will rise to $50 per tonne, and other disposal fees will increase by five per cent.
The TNRD board of directors has approved increases to solid waste disposal fees for the first time in several years. The new rates take effect on April 1. According to the TNRD, the updated fees will better align with operational costs. The fees are also intended to reduce the reliance on property taxes to fund solid waste and recycling services. The adjustment to concrete disposal fees reflects the actual costs of managing the bulky material, according to the TNRD. The board said the five per cent increase to existing disposal fees will keep TNRD rates in line with neighbouring jurisdictions.
