Connolly Hospital Theatre Named for Kerry Nurse Christine McCarthy Five Years Later
Christine McCarthy, a Kerry native and long-time nurse at Connolly Hospital, was honored with a memorial theatre. McCarthy's family attended the unveiling of the 'Christine McCarthy, Memorial Theatre' on the fifth anniversary of her death.
Connolly Hospital in Dublin recently dedicated its new operating theatre to the memory of Christine McCarthy, a nurse with strong ties to Kerry. McCarthy, originally from Tulloha, Kenmare, had a distinguished nursing career, including 20 years as a theatre nurse at Connolly Hospital. She also spent time nursing abroad. McCarthy passed away suddenly at age 58 during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, due to pulmonary fibrosis. Her colleagues previously organized a virtual walk in her memory, raising funds for the Irish Lung Fibrosis Association (ILFA). The hospital invited McCarthy's family to the unveiling of the theatre, named in her honour, on the fifth anniversary of her death.
