Kharg Island: Trump Considers Deploying US Troops to Seize Iranian Oil Terminal

President Trump is reportedly considering deploying American troops to seize Kharg Island, which contains Iran's main oil export terminal. The island is responsible for around 94 per cent of the country's crude oil exports.

Kharg Island is located northwest of the Strait of Hormuz. The island holds around 94 per cent of Iran's crude oil for export, mostly bound for China. The possibility of US troops seizing the island marks a change from President Trump's recent statements about ending the war with Tehran. Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, told The Telegraph that the Pentagon is preparing options for the commander in chief. On Truth Social, President Trump said that the US is close to meeting its objectives and considering winding down military efforts in the Middle East regarding Iran. President Trump has previously said that US strikes had "obliterated" Iranian military outposts on the island, but left its oil infrastructure alone.
