Kirsten Cites PCB Interference as Reason for Early Exit as Pakistan Coach

Gary Kirsten, former head coach of Pakistan's limited-overs teams, cited excessive Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) interference as a primary reason for his departure. Kirsten stepped down from his role after just six months of a two-year contract, prior to Pakistan's ODI tour of Australia.

Gary Kirsten, who was appointed head coach in April 2024, resigned from his position as coach of Pakistan's ODI and T20I teams after only six months. Kirsten cited significant interference from the PCB as a major factor in his decision to leave. He told talkSPORT Cricket that the level of external influence on team matters was unprecedented in his experience. Following Kirsten's resignation, Jason Gillespie was appointed as interim coach for the Australia tour. Gillespie also stepped down from his role a few months later. Kirsten indicated that constant external pressure made it difficult to create a stable work environment.
