Nintendo Switch 2 revision may feature user-replaceable batteries in EU

Nintendo may release a revised Switch 2 in the European Union with user-replaceable batteries. The change would comply with EU regulations taking effect in February 2027 mandating easily swappable batteries in devices.

Nintendo is reportedly planning a Switch 2 revision for the European Union that would allow users to replace their own batteries, according to Nikkei. The current Switch 2 model has a glued-in battery. The change would align with EU rules set to take effect in February 2027, requiring devices to feature easily replaceable portable batteries. Nikkei reports that the new version of the Switch 2 will be released "soon", and both the console and the Joy-Cons will have replaceable batteries. Specifications for the console will remain the same in Japan, according to Nikkei. The Verge reports that Nintendo did not immediately respond to their request for comment.
