Paul Mainieri Expected to Leave South Carolina Baseball Team
Paul Mainieri is expected to leave his position as head baseball coach for the South Carolina Gamecocks. The decision follows a 22-6 loss to No. opponent.
Paul Mainieri will not coach Saturday's game against the Razorbacks. Multiple sources have reported that Monte Lee will take over as South Carolina's interim head coach for the remainder of the year. Mainieri stated on May 6, 2025, that he believed the 2026 season would be much different and better for South Carolina. Mainieri was brought in after being on medically required retirement for three years after a Hall of Fame career at LSU, Notre Dame, Air Force and St. Thomas. He was expected to help the Gamecocks advance past NCAA regional appearances and occasional trips to the super regionals, and return USC to the College World Series. However, Mainieri guided the program to depths it has never been before.
