Rodger Brulotte, the Montreal-born broadcaster and columnist, was known for his signature home-run call “Bonsoir, elle est partie!”, which translates to “Good evening, it’s gone!”. He was still calling MLB games in French on TVA Sports last summer. Brulotte had surgery last September to remove a cancerous tumour from his back, but the disease returned. He began his career with the Montreal Expos in 1969 as a scout. He later assisted in the creation of the team's mascot, “Youppi!”, as part of the club’s marketing staff. Québecor president and CEO Pierre Karl Péladeau said that Brulotte's authenticity and kindness made him a beloved figure in the hearts of Quebecers.
