India's Pharma Sector Transformation Drives Self-Reliance, Boosts Economy: Minister Singh

India's pharmaceutical and medical technology sectors are experiencing a significant shift towards self-reliance, according to Union Minister Jitendra Singh. This evolution is expected to substantially contribute to the country's GDP and establish India as a key global hub.

Speaking at a healthcare summit in New Delhi, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said that India's healthcare system is undergoing a major transformation with a focus on global quality standards and integrating research with industry. Singh noted India's move from import dependence to prioritizing domestic capabilities in healthcare. Critical medical resources once primarily sourced internationally, making treatments costly, are now being developed within India, according to Singh. India's ability to produce its own antibiotics, vaccines and advanced treatments signifies a move towards self-sufficiency, Singh stated. Singh cited India's vaccine supply to other countries during the COVID-19 pandemic as evidence of its growing role as a global healthcare partner. Singh said this transformation will accelerate economic growth.
