Iran Says Strait of Hormuz Open to All But 'Enemies'

Iran's envoy to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Ali Mousavi, stated that foreign vessels can navigate the Strait of Hormuz if they coordinate with the government for security. Mousavi said the Strait of Hormuz is closed only to Iran's enemies, according to Al Jazeera, citing the Mehr news agency.

According to Al Jazeera, citing the Mehr news agency, Ali Mousavi, Iran's representative to the IMO and envoy to the United Kingdom, said cooperation with Iran is essential for stability in the strategic waterway. Mousavi added that international obligations must respect Iran's territorial integrity. He stated that Tehran is ready to work with the IMO and other countries to improve maritime safety and protect seafarers. Mousavi identified regional tensions, particularly the conflict involving the United States and Israel, as the primary cause of maritime friction in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump has threatened military action if Iran does not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.
