Motorcycle Advice: Honda CB350, Triumph Scrambler, or Used Speed 400?

A 39-year-old with back pain seeks advice on the best motorcycle for commuting. Autocar India recommends test-riding the Honda CB350 H'ness, Triumph Scrambler 400X (and upcoming 350X), and a used Triumph Speed 400 to determine personal preference.

For a person with back pain seeking a comfortable motorcycle for daily commuting, Autocar India suggests several options. The Honda CB350 H'ness, with its upright posture, soft suspension, and smooth engine, is a solid retro-styled choice. Its light clutch and steering provide ease when riding in heavy city traffic. The Triumph Scrambler 400 X and the upcoming 350 X offer more assertive ergonomics and sophisticated suspension. However, the Scrambler's tall 835mm seat height may pose challenges for shorter riders or those not used to larger, heavier bikes. A lightly used 2025 Speed 400 (with 1,500 km) could be a good purchase if it is accident-free, has service records, and remains under warranty.

  • Autocar India — I am planning to buy a new bike for my daily office commute. I am 39 years old and have some back pain issues, so comfort is a key priority for me. I am currently confused between the Honda H'ness CB350, Triumph Scrambler 400X, and the upcoming Scrambler 350X. Additionally, I am getting a used Triumph Speed 400 (2025 model, 1,500 km run) for around ₹2 lakh, which is also tempting. Could you please advise which of these options would be the best choice considering comfort, ease of riding, and long-term usability? | Ask Autocar Anything | Autocar India
