Two gatekeepers at the Paduar Bazar railway crossing in Cumilla Sadar South were dismissed at 9:00 a.m. Sunday. The dismissals of Helal Uddin and Mehedi Hasan follow a train collision on the Dhaka-Chittagong line. According to railway sources, two gatekeepers are usually on duty in rotation at the Paduar Bazar crossing to manage the signal system. Chittagong Divisional Manager of the Railways, Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, told Prothom Alo that the gatekeeper's absence led to a communication breakdown before the accident. Bhuiyan stated that a Dhaka mail train was due to receive a signal at the crossing; however, a bus entered the crossing and was struck by the train.
