UCLA Dominates Cal Baptist in NCAA Tournament Opener, Advances to Second Round

UCLA defeated Cal Baptist 96-43 in the first round of March Madness. The Bruins, who allowed five 3-pointers in the first half, limited the Lancers to one in the second half.

UCLA, the tournament's top seed, played Cal Baptist on Saturday night in Los Angeles. The Bruins (32-1) were looking to return to the Final Four for a second straight year. Cal Baptist (23-10) kept the game close for the first 20 minutes, buoyed by fans who travelled 67 miles from Riverside. Lancers guard Filipa Barros said her team had "nothing to lose." UCLA led 23-15 at the end of the first quarter after a 14-3 run. The Bruins led 44-34 at halftime.
