During the Sportstar Focus Bihar Conclave in Patna on Sunday, Abhinav Bindra, an Olympic gold medallist and former shooter, addressed the financial landscape of Indian sports. Speaking at a Fireside Chat with Sportstar Editor Ayon Sengupta and Raveendran Sankaran, Director General-cum-CEO of the Bihar State Sports Authority, Bindra asserted that ample money is available for sports within India. He underscored the importance of a comprehensive strategy that combines sports with educational initiatives to elevate India's Olympic achievements. Bindra observed that the country is witnessing initial indicators of the legacy from its Olympic bid, noting the accelerated enactment of the National Governance Act as an example. He also highlighted the increased investment in athlete development at foundational levels, attributing this surge to the Olympic bid efforts. Bindra suggested that childhood participation in sports should prioritize broad inclusion and enjoyment, focusing on development rather than early selection, citing Norway as an example.
