Islanders Express Frustration After Disallowed Goal in Critical Matchup

The New York Islanders recently expressed dissatisfaction with a ruling during a key game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. With less than eight minutes remaining in the contest, a potential Islanders goal was overturned. The Islanders were leading 1-0 at the time and sought a victory to draw even with Columbus in the standings for the Metropolitan Division's third playoff position. The sequence began when a shot from Bo Horvat was redirected by Columbus netminder Jet Greaves, creating a rebound. Islanders captain Anders Lee pursued the puck but collided with Blue Jackets forward Mathieu Olivier. Both players subsequently slid into Greaves as the puck entered the net. Although on-ice officials initially signalled a goal, Columbus initiated a challenge, which resulted in the goal being nullified. The NHL released a statement indicating that "Video review determined that New York’s Anders Lee impaired the ability of Jet Greaves to play his position in the crease prior to Lee’s goal," referencing Rule 69.1, which outlines conditions for disallowing goals due to an attacking player's interference with a goalkeeper.
