Lancashire Schools Receive Funding for New and Expanded Childcare Facilities

Thirteen schools across Lancashire are set to establish new or enlarge existing nursery provisions, following a national funding initiative. This expansion aims to reduce childcare expenses for eligible families, with new facilities opening by September.

A government initiative has allocated funding for 13 schools in Lancashire to either construct new nursery facilities or enhance their current childcare offerings. This programme is designed to assist families and improve early childhood education in areas identified as needing additional support. The new or expanded nurseries are scheduled to commence operations in September, according to details from the Lancashire Telegraph. Prime Minister Keir Starmer commented on the challenges parents face balancing employment with family responsibilities, particularly during a child's early years. He noted that school-based nurseries are significantly altering how families receive childcare assistance. The Prime Minister further stated that this expansion, encompassing over 300 new nurseries nationally, seeks to lower childcare expenditures and streamline daily routines for parents, especially when household finances are strained. The objective is to direct assistance to where it is most required, alleviating financial pressures and providing children with a strong foundation. In East Lancashire, Altham St James Church of England Primary School, Blacko Primary School, and Colne Lord Street School will create new nursery spaces, while Ribblesdale Nursery School in Clitheroe will utilize the funds to broaden its existing childcare services.
