Supreme Court Requests Responses on Gurugram Child Assault Investigation

India's Supreme Court has requested responses from the Haryana government and its Director General of Police regarding a petition for a federal investigation into the assault of a four-year-old girl in Gurugram. This judicial action includes a directive for specific police officials to present case records to the court.

On Monday, March 23, the Supreme Court of India initiated proceedings concerning a petition that calls for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry into the assault of a young child in Gurugram. The court formally requested replies from the Haryana state government, its Director General of Police, and other relevant parties. A judicial panel, consisting of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M. Pancholi, issued these directives. Additionally, the court mandated the presence of the Gurugram police commissioner and the assigned investigating officer. These officials are required to appear before the court on March 25. They must also bring all comprehensive records pertaining to the case for judicial review.
